About Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgM
Cytomegalovirus IgM test detects the presence of IgM antibodies in a given sample of blood. Normal individuals who are affected with CMV infection may have mild flu-like symptoms. In case, an infant is exposed to cytomegalovirus infection before birth they are more likely to suffer from deafness, seizures, eye problems, and cerebral disorders.

Interpretation of the Test Results
Negative test result
If the CMV, IgM test results are negative, it means that you are not having any recent CMV infection and your symptoms are not due to CMV infection.
Positive test result
If the CMV, IgM test results are positive, it means that you are having active primary CMV infection. Your doctor may order the test again 2 weeks after the positive test results to confirm the diagnosis.
